Visit Crete

Follow in Our Creative Travel Director's footsteps

I was lucky enough to visit Crete for the first time this year as part of our company conference and stay in different areas. I love Greece and it is my mission to visit more islands, but I would definitely like to go back to Crete with my family for some relaxation and adventure.

Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands, and with some beautiful beaches, plenty of culture and history, stunning food – this is an island that you will want to visit time and time again.

My Recommendations

  • Choose where you want to stay on the island carefully. Each area offers something different, so think about what you want to get out of your holiday, and we can help guide you to the area of the island that would best suit your requirements
  • Hire a car and explore this diverse island, it is pretty easy to navigate and although there are limited road markings, the roads tend not to that busy. If you don’t feel comfortable driving, we can arrange a private driver for you, to fully appreciate and explore Crete
  • Take a light jacket or jumper for the cooler evenings out of season – thank me later.

What I Loved Most

  • The crystal blue waters of the Aegean Sea, it was so warm and inviting. Perfect way to relax!
  • How different each part of the island is, from little fishing villages in Elounda, to larger bustling towns with waterside bars and restaurant like Agios Nikolaos, perfect for people watching
  • Greek People are renowned for being friendly and it is no different here, they provide hospitality from the heart
  • Traditional local Greek Tavernas, definitely get out of your hotel and experience the local cuisine.

Best Time To Travel

Crete is a seasonal island, and tourists usually visit between April to October. Early on and at the of the season may be less busy in resort than the peak summer months and tends to have slightly cooler weather. As it is the most southern island, the warmer temperatures are likely to last longer to the end of the season.

How to get there?

You can fly to Crete in about 4 hours from London, and there is a wide choice of weekly flights from most national airports. Some people like to Island hop and it is easy to get between islands, via internal flights or boats – just ask and we can suggest some ideas to maximise you travel time
