Visit Jordan

Follow in Our Creative Travel Director's footsteps

Jordan is an ancient land unlike anywhere else on earth. Steeped in history and culture, and a holiday here guarantees unique, varied, and memorable experiences.

For a small country, Jordan offers such variety. Magical desert landscapes, majestic Roman remains, the cosmopolitan capital city of Amman, mystical Petra, unspoilt beaches of Aquaba, and the Dead Sea – the lowest point on earth. If you’re looking for a once in a lifetime holiday to an ancient yet beautiful land, filled with experiences as well as opportunities to unwind and recharge, Jordan may just be the place for you.

My Recommendations

  • If it’s a first time visit to Jordan, join an escorted group tour (or push the boat out and make it a private tour). Jordan has a collection of unmissable ‘must see’ locations and the country is small enough to see them all with a well thought out itinerary. Allow a week to 12 days.
  • Expect some driving. Due to the geography of the country, there’s no getting around this, however, carefully planned trips will be well incorporate sightseeing stops enroute, meaning no day of your holiday will include an uncomfortably long journey. The landscape is so beautiful so sit back and take it in whilst your driver gets you to the next location.
  • Include a few days to relax at the Red Sea resort of Aqaba before flying home. Aqaba is home to some of the worlds best scuba diving. Just remember to allow 24 hours between diving and flying.
  • You must do ‘Petra by Night’. A two hour event offered just 3 evenings per week. A beautiful, peaceful, spiritual experience. Sitting/ laying on the desert sand in the dark looking up at the stars in the clear night sky. The whole site is lit with lanterns – it’s an experience you’ll get more out of than you expect. We’re plan you trip so you’re there on the right day to catch it.

What I Loved Most

An afternoon hiking one of the trails within Petra and ‘discovering’ the wonders it had to offer – the site may be much larger than you expect.
Having a mud bath using the natural Dead Sea mud, then standing in the sun until it dried, and washing it off while floating in the Dead Sea. An unusual experience you wont find anywhere else on the planet.
4×4 desert safari through UNESCO world heritage site, Wadi Rum. The Luna landscape is incredible and understandably has been used for many movies including Lawrence of Arabia and The Martian. Our trip included an authentic BBQs lunch and tea with the Bedouin. The meat is cooked in an underground fire pit.
Guided tour of Amman – a city with so many different sides – everything from a Roman amphitheatre to new build shopping malls, and quite possibly, the worlds tallest flagpole and largest flag!
Temples carved into the rock in Jordan.

Best Time To Travel

Temperatures are most comfortable during the Spring or autumn. The summer months of June – August can reach temperatures in excess of 40 degrees, especially in the Gulf of Aqaba.

How to get there?

From London, British Airways and Royal Jordanian Airlines both offer frequent scheduled direct services to Amman. For stand alone beach breaks, there are also some low cost carrier options in/ out of Aqaba. EasyJet from Gatwick, Wizz from Luton. The flight time to Jordan is around 5 hours 45 mins.
