Kefalonia

Visit Kefalonia

Follow in Our Creative Travel Director's footsteps

Kefalonia is the largest of the seven Ionian islands, and has to be my favourite, it offers beautiful natural scenery and the coastline is filled with gorgeous sandy beaches and the most sapphire blue Ionian Sea… many return year after year and you will see why after a visit yourself.

My Recommendations

  • Visit Myrtos Bay it is the most famous beach in Kefalonia and is one of the main sightseeings of the island. It lies between the feet of two mountains Aga Dynati and Kalon Oros and is often referred to as the best beach in Greece!
  • Kefalonia is know for its caves do try and visit one as they are fascinating.. I visited Melissani, the cave is 20 meters underground with stalactites that date about 2000 years. It is a dreamy spectacle, with imposing rocks and clear blue waters. The water in the cave is a mixture of seawater and freshwater, and it is about 20-60 meters deep. Geologists have discovered that underground tunnels connect the cave with the springs of the island.
  • Visit Assos a small cute traditional village, Argostoli the capital and head to the harbour where hopefully you will see some turtles and Fiskardo, this historic harbour can be found in the north of the island.
  • Stay bed & breakfast, it’s great to get out and meet the locals and the restaurants offering some fantastic local cuisine
  • Hire a car and explore the island but watch out for the winding roads and mountain goats!
  • For a day trip you can choose to go on a short boat ride to an island laying off the northeast coast of Kefalonia called Ithaca the home of the mythological hero Odysseus.

What I Loved Most

The beautiful coastline is filled with gorgeous sandy beaches and the most sapphire blue Ionian Sea of all the islands.
