Mexico

Visit Mexico - (Riviera Maya)

Follow in Our Creative Travel Director's footsteps

I have visited Mexico twice with my family and we would love to revisit to explore a different area. We stayed in Riviera Maya, which is on the Caribbean coastline, with endless long white sand beaches, it is perfect for those dreamy relaxation days or getting active in the sunshine.

My Recommendations

  • Get out of your hotel and experience the local mode of transport the Colectivo. These are little mini busses / shuttles that go from destination to destination. It is cheaper than a taxi, and you can meet some of the very friendly locals. You can go north toward Playa del Carmen or south towards Tulum
  • Take USD for tips, these are widely accepted in resorts
  • Visit Xcaret for an eco adventure (You don’t have to do an organised excursion, you book the tickets online and jump on the Colectivo straight to the park)
  • Don’t forget a waterproof camera.

What I Loved Most

  • The people are just so friendly, we loved chatting to the locals. Always happy to help.
  • Beautiful white sand beaches, that go on for miles
  • Swimming with turtles in the ocean, just a snorkel and mask and you’re in another world
  • Being able to get out and explore outside of the hotel. One of our trips included the Tulum Ruins, which was a beautiful walk and the views were incredible – don’t forget a sunhat, sun cream, drinking water and your camera. It is hot with little shade, so be prepared.
  • It goes without saying the FOOD – who doesn’t love Mexican food. Get out and discover local restaurants, there is more to savour than the All-Inclusive buffet.

Best Time To Travel

Mexico is a huge country and the weather can vary from region to region. Whether you want to Whale Watch, Sunbath, Visit festivals or ancient ruins – we can recommend the best time for you to travel depending on your requirements. Mexico is more than just beautiful beaches, we can work with you to discover the ‘real’ Mexico if you are wanting something different.

How to get there?

You can fly directly to Cancun (the main tourist airport if you are heading to the coast) in about 10 hours from London from several regional airports. The transfer from the airport is approximately 45minutes to reach the Riviera Maya. Airport arrivals at Cancun can be pretty hectic, so be patient and my top tip – grab yourself a Margarita from the Margaritaville Hut outside the arrivals and enjoy feeling the sun on your face. Thank me later!
